Superintendent Biography


Dr. Steven J. Maloney is the Superintendent of the ºûµûÖ±²¥ School ºûµûÖ±²¥. He began his career in education in 1994 as a social studies teacher at ºûµûÖ±²¥ Middle School. In 1999 he moved into administration, first as Assistant Principal of ºûµûÖ±²¥ Middle School and then as Assistant Principal of ºûµûÖ±²¥ High School. 

 

Dr. Maloney became Principal of ºûµûÖ±²¥ Middle School, where he was responsible for overseeing and guiding more than 1,400 students and 130 teachers in a culturally diverse setting. While leading the building, he helped increase the proficiency level on the New York State Grade Eight Mathematics Assessment from 45% to 75%, which placed ºûµûÖ±²¥ Middle School in the top 10% of Suffolk County.

 

In 2005, Dr. Maloney moved to ºûµûÖ±²¥ Office in 2005, first as Assistant Superintendent for Administration and then as Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Administration. As Assistant Superintendent, he oversaw the instructional operations for the ºûµûÖ±²¥’s more than 6,000 pre-kindergarten through grade 12 students. He facilitated academic, social and emotional ºûµûÖ±²¥ initiatives to increase student outcomes, including Response to Intervention, professional development, a one-to-one learning program, ESL Instructional Pathways, the Seal of Biliteracy and social emotional learning programs.

 

Dr. Maloney has presented in front of numerous groups, including the Islip Town School Board Association, National Association of Secondary School Principals, and the College Board. He has also presented at the Long Island Regional School Support Center and the School Administrators and Suffolk County Police Department Summit.

 

Dr. Maloney attended the ºûµûÖ±²¥ School ºûµûÖ±²¥ beginning in kindergarten and is an alumnus of ºûµûÖ±²¥ High School. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Marist College, and a Masters Degree in Secondary Education and a Professional Diploma in School ºûµûÖ±²¥ Administration from Dowling College. He holds a Doctor of Education from St. John’s University.
