Dear ºûµûÖ±²¥-Brightwaters Community,

I have fond memories of growing up in the ºûµûÖ±²¥-Brightwaters community as the youngest of six children; some of the best times I can recall revolve around time spent together with my family. One of the non-negotiables for many families during the time I grew up was that, each night, everyone came together to eat dinner. I can remember sitting around the dinner table with my parents and siblings, sharing stories about our day at school or discussing something that happened while playing in the neighborhood.

Unfortunately, the fast-paced, technology-driven world of today often does not allow for families to spend as much time together as they would like. There is always a rush to get to after-school activities and an attempt to manage assignments. During downtime between these tasks, the distraction of devices and social media is never far away. As a result of all of the diversions, many families simply do not have the time to sit down together each night to eat dinner or talk about their day.

We believe that, as a community, we need to find that sense of connection once again. In an effort to provide families a chance to spend time together, the ºûµûÖ±²¥ School ºûµûÖ±²¥ will designate Tuesday, January 31, 2023, as a Family Connection Night. We hope families will use the time to step away from their devices, to instead spend time connecting and creating special memories.

As we get closer to Family Connection Night, each building will share some suggested activities for families. We hope you will also get creative in coming up with your own ways to connect as a family. We invite you to share photos and reflections from your Family Connection Night activities with us at communityservice@bayshoreschools.org to be included in a slideshow highlighting our families.

I look forward to seeing and hearing about how your family chooses to connect. As always, thank you for your support of our students and ºûµûÖ±²¥.

Sincerely,
